Hi - just popping in - I am a Wiganer born and bred however my maternal grandmother was born in Burtonwood in 1900 - her name was Maggie Burke - she lived at 7 Fairclough St when she was a child. This site looked interesting so have bookmarked it to have a read through and maybe find more stuff to add to my family genealogy.

Hi all, im looking into my great great Grandfather, i was wondering if anyone has any information on him. His name was John Miller, he was from scotland (but im not sure where)and in 1911 he was running the Oak Tree Hotel with his wife Emma Catherine. He had a son John and daughters Dorothy, Phyllis and Ida. i know that he was married before but i dont know her name for sure, i think it was esther. i also know that he played cricket. i have a picture of him with a team in uniform, but unfortunately the bottom, is lost with all the information. The storey in the family was he played for lancashire, but i dont think that is true. Any information would be greatly appreciated. The website is great.

This website is absolutely amazing! I am born and bread in newton le willows. I recently moved away just 3 years ago now, i've always took an interest of the history of Newton/Earlestown. But this website has brought it all flooding back again and I can't wait to come 'home' and research a little more each time I visit as all my family are still in the area and I visit as much as possible. I've also never known where to start to when it comes to my family history and this website has just give me the insight, I am so excited to find out some more. I have visited the website nearly ever day and read almost every post since I have come across it. Thank you so much!

Hi Chris.
Mill Lane is to the right hand side of the maps.
If you click on the 1933 map and locate the centre of the map, you will be roughly on the Liverpool-Manchester railway line at around Mesnes Park. Follow the line to the right, ie toward Manchester, until you come to Newton Station. Mill Lane goes under the line at this point, and heads south, down towards Winwick.
